art.net #4

Chris Mann

Created by Chris Mann, unknown date. This works similar to the Track Loops with offering continuous loops. There are no musical instruments or sounds; it is all recordings of people talking in interesting accents. The sound bits sound as if they were taken from audio tapes of books. The more dots you click (turn on), the more voices talking and sound like a crowded area of Europeans talking nonsense.

Let Them Sing It For You

Unknown artist/date. At first this appears to be a simple text2speach tool. Once you enter something for it to say you will see (or hear) that the audio recording of each word is a sound bit from a song. Makes a very interesting sounding output. I enjoyed entering lyrics to songs and hearing what other songs are used to output the lyrics. I even recognized some of the songs that the art uses.

Squid Soup

This was made for the Remedi Project (unknown artist/date) and uses onomatopoeia and sound. The small interactive window acts almost like a maze to travel through that has different sounds that you can add to the music playing in the background. The sounds are different depending on the textures you click and how fast you click them.

art.net Week 1

I have chosen the theme of interactive sound art.net pieces. While conducting my research, I was most intrigued by interactive pieces, especially those involving sounds. I decided on my chosen theme after finding the piece looptracks.net. This piece reminds me of how programs like ableton Live and Traktor operate. These programs give users the tools to create musical art. I recently started learning these programs and finding art.net that has the same core function (user controlled sounds) fascinates me. The 5 chosen art.net pieces below are centered around the user/viewer being in control of what sounds/music they hear.

  1. track loops
  2. squid soup
  3. let them sing it for you
  4. chris mann
  5. the connections project

Recycled Desktop

I wanted to incorporate the graffiti clown in my wallpaper into my sketch book because of its vivid colors and character. It reminds of Stephen King’s It, so I thought I would make the clown do something creepy and interesting: the clown projecting out screen shots of itself from its mouth.

Spring Break

I went home for spring break and got to see my new nephew who is a 7 weeks old. It was great getting to meet him for the first time. I took some pictures of him and played around with the pictures in Photoshop. I decided to make a collage because I could not pick just one picture to use.

DJ Thursday Night – I DJ on 88.5FM every Thursday night and I use my computer for mixing.
365 Plan – I don’t know whay I would do without my iCal that syncs with all my devices to keep my life on schedule.
Work Class Fun – I am always using Adobe’s suite for my business, classes, and just for fun.
Connect – I use a variety of applications for connecting with others in addition to my cell phone.
Groove – Music is a BIG part of my life and iTunes manages all my music so I can always find what I want.
Share – The Toast icon is representative of outputting my ideas, I don’t burn CDs always, but I do put my creations in a format for others to enjoy.
Trash Question – As soon as I move something to the trash can I usually empty the trash immediately, why not just permanently delete first?

16th Century France: Friends, Enemies, Chosen Ones, and Outdoors

February 21, 2010 2 comments

Allegorical applications of ten scenes from the Old Testament and two from ancient history to the Christian Church, addressed to Charles VIII of France. 16th century, beginning.

(original image, first edit, second edit, and third edit)

I see the two people in the foreground as friends talking to one another about what is going on at the gathering, or discussing something else. For the first image, I edited their heads so they are looking away from one another: no longer friends. The second image has all of the people and colors muted, except for the one person in the center. The center person is given a vibrant red that makes them stand out from the rest, adding some kind of recognition to them (positive or negative?). The third image moves the scene outdoors with added grass and the overall image brighter to simulate natural light.
